How does NuHear differ from others on the market?

Two critical components for a functional electronic shooters plug are:

1. having a good seal in the ear canal to reduce the chance of it whistling (feedback) when the volume is turned up, and when jaw movements push the unit out of the ear. Power (volume/gain) is directly related to a good fit (seal). The power dB value on its own is meaningless unless you can achieve it by having a good fitting plug. Proper contact with the ear canal is critical.
2. a solid barrier to protect you from the muzzle blasts. The circuit will compress the sound that is picked up by the microphone, but untouched loud sounds can leak through a hollow body plug making it less effective for noise reduction.

The family of "universal" electronic shooters plugs are currently built using hard or rubber outer shell with the delicate internal electronic components glued inside this hollow shell. Various size sleeves or tips are added at the end to "plug" the ear.

Since the ear canal is shaped like an "S", a device that is made of hard plastic/rubber will unlikely make good contact with the ear canal. These "universal" fit outer shells are also not pliable enough to bend to the "S" shaped ear and make good contact.. Therefore, proper seal is unlikely and slit leaks are probable.

A hollow shell simply does not provide a true barrier to extremely loud sounds.

NuHear addresses both criteria. It is pliable for good ear canal contact and it is all solid to act as a true plug. It achieves a good seal with its soft, medical grade silicone body that is comfortable and conforms to the dynamic ear canal.
